Wave Whisperer does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information.
The app retrieves publicly available ocean buoy data from NOAA's National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) and the Coastal Data Information Program (CDIP, operated by Scripps Institution of Oceanography) directly on your device. No data is sent to our servers. No user accounts are required or created.
Saved history snapshots you capture are stored on your device. On iPhone, they also sync through your own iCloud account (Apple's key-value storage) so your saved history can survive deleting and reinstalling the app. That copy lives in your iCloud, under your Apple Account — it is never sent to our servers, and we cannot see, access, or share it. On Android, saved history stays on your device only, and deleting the app deletes it.
Wave Whisperer does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or crash reporting SDKs.
Wave Whisperer offers a one-time in-app purchase (a $1.99 unlock following a free trial). Purchases are processed entirely by the app store's billing system (Apple or Google). We do not collect, receive, or store your payment details. The app keeps only a local record of your free-trial start and whether the unlock has been purchased; that record stays on your device.
The app fetches data from public API endpoints operated by NOAA's National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) and the Coastal Data Information Program (CDIP, Scripps Institution of Oceanography). These are public data sources, not data processors for Wave Whisperer. No personal information is shared with NOAA, CDIP, or any other third party.
Wave Whisperer does not collect data from any user, including children under 13.
Because we collect no personal data, there is nothing to retain or delete on our end. Saved history snapshots — on your device and, on iPhone, in your own iCloud — can be deleted at any time within the app.
